Opening a Business Account

Federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify and record information that identifies each person who opens an account. Here's what you will need to bring with you:
  • Two forms of identification — applies to all persons who will sign on the account
  • A government issued ID with a photo — like a driver's license or passport
  • A second form of ID — like a Social Security card, insurance card or credit card with your name on it and an expiration date that shows it is current

Unless your business is a sole proprietorship, you will also need a copy of the legal documentation for your business, including:

  • Certificate of Incorporation

  • Corporate By-Laws

  • Articles of Incorporation
  • Tax ID Number

For a Limited Liability Company (LLC) or Limited Liability Partnership (LLP), you will need:

  • Certificate of LLC or LLP as applicable

  • Operating Agreement
  • Articles of LLC or LLP as applicable
  • Tax ID Number

For a Partnership, you will need:

  • Fictitious Name Certificate

  • Tax ID Number
